2019 Greater Seattle Chapter Annual Symposium

“THE BUSINESS OF BUILDINGS - INVESTIGATE, DISCOVER, PREDICT”

Dear Members and Associates,

On behalf of the IFMA Seattle Chapter, I would like to thank each one of you who attended the 23rd Annual IFMA Education Symposium with a big thank you to Melanie Danuser and her Education Committee members for putting the Symposium together.

This year's theme highlighted “The Business of Buildings – Investigate, Discover, Predict” and was filled with experts illustrating how facility professionals can address the variety of challenges they face in their day-to-day work. Our keynote speaker, Gifford Pinchot III, introduced us to “Innovative Entrepreneurism” or “Intrapreneuring” and showed us ways that we can use this Intrapreneurial spirit to benefit both our companies and our employees.

We focused on two separate tracks this year. One focus was Building Systems including presentations related to HVAC systems throughout our buildings. Experts discussed the ins and outs of Heating and AC units, as well as how to operate and troubleshoot basic problems with HVAC and Lighting controls. Our other track was about the Business of Buildings which included sessions on the Evolving Workplace, which explored the changing nature of work and employee expectations in today’s office space. We also introduced a wonderful panel of Women in FM and listened as they explained ways to close the generational and information gap as well as shared practical experiences and best practices in their field. Overall, the day was full of activity!

Special thanks to our Premier Sponsor, CentiMark and our many Supporting Sponsors: The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, Scranton Products, AppSheet, Connectrac, Alledra LED Lighting, Snohomish County PUD, Enecon, Apollo Solutions Group, McManus Brothers, Willdan, University Mechanical Contractors, Sunbelt Controls, Commute with Enterprise, Commercial Cleaning Systems, Corporate Care, Seattle City Light, and the University of Washington Professional and Continuing Education program.

We hope that you found the 23rd Annual IFMA Education Symposium informative and worthwhile. Our primary goal was to increase your understanding of Building Systems and the Workplace Experience and provide introductions and resources that will support your Facilities Career. Please keep your eyes out for a save the date for the 2020 Symposium. We are committed to offering topical and informative educational sessions based on your feedback as well as more time for networking with the trade show supporters.

Thank you,

Tony Houts
President
