IFMA Seattle - Presents
"Crossroads: the Transformation and Survival of the Facility Manager"
FM Internal Marketing Event
Friday, June 18,  2010

BMW Seattle’s Facility @ 1002 Airport Way South/Seattle, WA
http://www.bmwseattle.com/dealership/directions.htm

The Facility Manager must be in alignment with their organization’s vision and strategy. However, the ugly truth is that misfit projects that don’t align with the goals are occurring daily no matter the industry. Today's turbulent economy adds more fuel to that fire.  What to do?  Do you get rid of the project, keep doing the same thing or create change? Despite all the hype about best value practices, FMs have seen very little actual improvement.

Meet the best value expert - Dr. Dean Kashiwagi, 2009 IFMA Awards of Excellence Distinguished Educator.  This session will introduce an innovative best value delivery system known as the Performance Information Risk Management System (PIRMS).  PIRMS can assist Facility Manager’s and their staff to complete projects with less work, but yielding better results. We will share case study results showing how other FMs have used PIRMS successfully. This system has been tested more than 650 times ($2.5 billion project costs) over 15 years and has delivered on time results 98% of the time, with high client satisfaction and no contractor generated change orders.

June 16, 2010
Washington State Convention & Trade Center

Special seminar during the EMC Conference & Expo
2:00-4:00 p.m.

Cost:  Free

The West Coast continues to be at the cutting edge of policies that promote energy efficiency and greenhouse gas mitigation in commercial buildings. Seattle and California, among other jurisdictions, have mandated the public disclosure of building energy use.  Commercial building owners and operators can use EPA’s energy performance tool, Portfolio Manager, to measure and disclose a building’s energy performance score.

Join us for this workshop that will demonstrate how to use Portfolio Manager to measure, track, document and recognize building energy performance.

AIA+2030: Right-sized - Equipment and Controls for Super-efficient Building Systems
July 23, 2010 from 8.30am-12.30pm
Bertha Knight Landes Room at Seattle City Hall
600 4th Avenue/Seattle, WA

Session VII: Right-sized: equipment and controls for super-efficient building system
After designing for maximum passive use of site resources and mitigating energy loads, the next step to a breakthrough building is properly sized equipment and employment of advanced controls. This session will explore the concept and application of designing and specifying equipment and controls for buildings that are already designed to take care of themselves, and need mechanical intervention only during periods of peak demand. Systems such as hybrid natural-mechanical ventilation systems and other approaches to engineer the mechanical system to be as small (efficient) and effective as possible will be explored.

Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Describe the concept of right-sizing as it applies to buildings employing passive energy conservation strategies
- Explain the importance of controls in optimizing the efficiency of equipment
- Enumerate energy efficient strategies to maintain occupant comfort
