Building Operating Management - FREE “View Now” webcast
Automated Building Controls: Specifications to Boost Energy Efficiency
Attend this complimentary 75-minute webcast:
Presenter: Carlos Petty, Associate Partner Syska Hennessy
Moderator: Edward Sullivan, Editor, Building Operating Management magazine

Regardless of building type, energy use accounts for a significant portion of operating costs. Part of the challenge in reducing costs lies in improving equipment performance and reducing energy consumption without diminishing comfort, safety or security. Meeting the challenge has illustrated the need for increased system automation and system integration.

Sustainable Facility and ed+c Webinar Series – on demand
Facility managers are busy, and cleaning is just one of the many issues they need to address. This Webinar will show you how to easily implement green cleaning. It does NOT focus on products or brands, but rather follows existing program requirements, such as those found in LEED-EBOM, to help facility managers identify the appropriate standards for products, training, procedures and more. It is applicable whether cleaning is done in-house or by a contract cleaning service. Let us show you why, even in tough economic times that green cleaning is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability.

Learning Objectives:
• Define green cleaning so you won’t be bamboozled by “greenwash”
• Identify key “roadmaps” (i.e. LEED-EBOM) from which to design a green cleaning program
• Recognize the third-party standards for identifying a variety of product categories including chemicals, janitorial paper and equipment
• Learn a process for implementing a green cleaning program

BOC - LIGHTING RETROFITS: A FRESH APPROACH FOR 2009
Lighting retrofits are a key component of a facility lighting maintenance program. Retrofits can bring dollars to the facility operating budget through energy savings, utility cash incentives, and reduced labor costs. Webinar opens with a quick refresher in high performance lamps and ballasts, then covers three new approaches to retrofits that will help lower power density while meeting the illumination needs in the workspace. Participants will be able to identify new lighting products for further exploration and apply new approaches to lighting retrofits for better performance.
PRESENTER: Eric Strandberg, L.C., Senior Lighting Specialist, Lighting Design Lab. Eric has 15 years experience providing lighting consultations and seminars to facilities operators and engineers, and is the author of numerous articles on lighting technology and maintenance. He has designed the webinar to provide useful, ready-to-use information you can apply for immediate results.

BOC - DEMAND CONTROL FOR VENTILATION—USING CO2 SENSORS FOR VENTILATION SAVINGS
Demand Control Ventilation (DVC) systems rely on room CO2 concentrations to vary ventilation rates. This strategy can be an effective energy savings retrofit in spaces where occupancy rates have wide variation throughout the day, such as conference rooms, auditoriums, classrooms and more. This webinar discusses the basics of how ventilation rates for healthy indoor air environments are determined and the system components and operational issues associated with a demand control ventilation system. Participants learn of free tools where energy savings calculations from DCV can be estimated as well as the common O&M steps necessary to maintain a demand control ventilation system.
PRESENTER: Adrienne Thomle is a Senior Product Manager with Honeywell. She is responsible for the design and development of the Honeywell economizers and is considered the leading expert on economizer design and applications. Adrienne is a member of ASHRAE and contributor to standards for energy conservation in buildings.

BOC - USING DATA LOGGERS TO IMPROVE BUILDING PERFORMANCE
You can’t manage what you don’t measure—and the more detailed the measurement data the greater the opportunity to spot operational problems and opportunities for improvement. Portable data loggers are excellent tools for facility staff to obtain a host of operating measurements from important systems and equipment like air handlers, air temperatures, motor run time, and much more. This webinar introduces the basics of data loggers and how this tool can be used to effectively pinpoint building issues and explore opportunities for energy savings projects in your facility.
PRESENTER: Bruce Shaffer is President of Action Energy; a firm specializing in helping customers improves energy performance.

IFMA International – iSessions
Violence in the Workplace - The Role Of The Facility Manager
11:00am - 12:30pm. 90 Minutes
PST (12noon CDT)

How can facility managers prevent workplace violence? How do they deal with an incident? How can facility managers handle the aftermath of this global issue?

Workplace violence has a devastating impact on the efficiency and morale of an organization. It directly affects financial performance–costing business billions each year in medical and psychological care, lost productivity, and liability. Workplace violence should not be viewed in isolation. Rather, it should be considered as part of a systemic crisis that is permeating our society. Historically, most of the research and information on workplace violence is the purview of the human resources group; however, there are certain impacts that are mediated by the facility itself. Those issues are the direct responsibility of the facility manager and can be positively influenced on behalf of the building owner.

Recently, the IFMA Foundation released the report Violence In The Workplace —The Role Of The Facility Manager. This session is based on that report and will look at the history of workplace violence, provide operational definitions, examine the current scope of the problem, discuss some of the regulations and statutes that surround it and, finally, provide tools for planning, responding and recovering from Workplace Violence.
Objectives:
· Provide operational definitions.
· Examine the current scope of the problem.
· Discuss some of the regulations and statutes that surround violence in the workplace.

Speaker:
Wayne D. Veneklasen, Ph.D., CFM, Founding Principal, Facility Solutions, Grandville, Mich., USA.

Very Efficient HVAC Systems May Qualify for Tax Deductions
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct) provides potentially significant tax deductions for energy efficient HVAC systems installed in new and existing buildings. But there is a caveat: To qualify for the deduction, the HVAC system must reduce energy costs by at least 16.67 percent compared to HVAC systems designed to meet ASHRAE 90.1-2001.

Under current law, the project must be placed in service between Jan. 1, 2006 and Dec. 31, 2008 to qualify for EPAct tax benefits. There are efforts in Congress to increase the tax deductions and extend EPAct through the 2012 tax year and through 2014 for projects certified as of 2012.
