LEED EB-OM Study Sessions Registration Form [pdf]
Great opportunity to begin preparing to take the LEED exam with this foundation
coursework presented by OBrien & Company. The new LEED Existing Building:
Operations & Maintenance system and reference guide will be the basis for the
training and practice study sessions.
A number of changes were made to expand sections on energy and water efficiency
and green cleaning; greater emphasis on operation, maintenance and upgrades;
fewer pre-requisites; clearer credit distinctions, and more. The US Green
Building Council is accepting orders for the new reference guide, which
participants are required to have access to in order to complete these session
exercises. Follow the link below to order the LEED EB-OM reference guide:

volunteer time commitment is two hours a month and the service to membership is
priceless! Please contact Cynthia Putnam,

The education committee provides information and advice to members seeking
professional development, technical training, and credentialing to enhance their
career growth. We organize a one-day annual symposium in March 2007.
Very Efficient HVAC Systems May Qualify for Tax Deductions
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct) provides potentially significant tax
deductions for energy efficient HVAC systems installed in new and existing
buildings. But there is a caveat: To qualify for the deduction, the HVAC system
must reduce energy costs by at least 16.67 percent compared to HVAC systems
designed to meet ASHRAE 90.1-2001.
Under current law, the project must be placed in service between Jan. 1, 2006
and Dec. 31, 2008 to qualify for EPAct tax benefits. There are efforts in
Congress to increase the tax deductions and extend EPAct through the 2012 tax
year and through 2014 for projects certified as of 2012.
